Achievements

This section shows a selection of achievements in the final year of B.Ed program. My accomplishments are related to some areas of competency which provided tangible evidences of my hard work and what I have done. It is very rewarding when I am able to accomplish the goals I have set to be achieved. I am very proud of who I am now and what I have achieved to be in the graduating year.

Professionalism

After taking special need course in Education program, now I am competent in dealing with special needs students. I participated in a voluntary activity which was planned for making special needs happy on the happiness day at Fujairah Women’s College. I felt so happy when I was dealing with special needs students because I believe that special needs are adorable as they share smile and love. I found there were some students felt isolated, so, I took those students to the dancing flour and jumping balloon to play and have fun with the other kids. This opportunity helped me to think more about the importance of voluntary activities in terms of making people happy and serving the community, which I have already discussed in my teaching philosophy (see teaching philosophy, under professionalism). I found out what made those students really feel happy and proud, when they were rewarded at the end of the party by the director. Having dealt with special needs students, I have gained an increased understating of being patient when talking and working with special needs. I consider this voluntary activity as an achievement because after taking special need course, I wanted really to implement what I have learnt from this course including strategies and skills when dealing with special needs. So, participating on this day helped me to accomplish one of my goals in my Professional Development Plan (See PDP, under professionalism).

Making special needs happy event

Women's health and happiness event

I participated in a voluntary activity in order to improve my professional skills such as punctuality, communication, and organization on Women’s happiness and health day at Fujairah Women’s college. I prepared many activities that involve games for students who pass by. Because I am a teacher, I get students to think through games and activities. I have created games that requires their thinking skills and abilities. Involving in this voluntary activity shows my professionalism because I displayed a high standard of professional behaviors such as communicating effectively with the visitors, and organizing the table that includes the games and activities.

Education Week at Fujairah Women's College

I presented my action research poster in the Education week at Fujairah women’s college. This poster represents my action research topic which is using interactive multimedia resources to support reading comprehension skills. As a teacher, this research helped me to know how much multimedia resources are supportive when applying reading comprehension skills. They motivate and engage students, as well as, they clarify and visualize the concepts clearly which results in better understanding. Presenting my poster in front of the students made me feel proud because I have done a research that needed such efforts and patience. Presenting this poster helped me to develop professional skills such as communicating skills, confidence and organization which are related to professionalism competency.

Mentoring skills workshop

I have attended a workshop about mentoring foundation students in order to improve my monitoring skills and strategies and ensure my professional growth. Attending educational workshop is based on my belief in teaching philosophy (see teaching philosophy). I learnt many useful mentoring skills from this workshop I have never known about them. These skills were effective and helped me when I did the monitoring for foundation level 3 students. These strategies were explained very well by the trainer Ms. Heidi. I believe attending workshops is essential for me as a future teacher because it helps me to learn new skills and strategies and extend my knowledge on educational topics.

Action Research Presentation at Ras Al Khaimah Women's College

I was one of the chosen students to be participated in Ras Alkahimah conference for action research presentation. This experience was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I was really excited to have the opportunity to present my action research in front of some students and teachers. At the beginning I was a bit nervous because it is my first time to present in front of people I do not know. When I started presenting my action research, I felt better and the nervousness had gone. What made me really delighted, the positive feedback that I got from the teacher about my action research. The teachers liked my action research and were impressed on the way I presented it. This experience encouraged me to do future presentations in front of people and boosted my confidence. Though I was nervous at the beginning, I enjoyed doing it when I got a positive feedback from the teacher and my action research course teacher.

IELTS band 6

To enter the final year of B.Ed program, we had to get IELTS band 6. This was really disappointing for some students because only 8 students who passed with band 6. At the beginning I was a bit nervous because it has been a long time that I did not take IELTS Exam. So, I was really working hard and studying for the exam to get band 6 and I finally achieved it. Studying for IELTS and submitting assignment at the same time was really stressful to me. I overcame it by finishing my assignments early and then studying and focusing on IELTS exam. I believe that getting IELTS should not be a criterion to be a good teacher. I know some really good and creative teachers who could not enter the final year because they did not get IELTS band 6.

Monitoring and assessment

Mentoring foundation students.

The second step after attending the mentoring workshop was to go to the classes and monitor foundation students and help the teachers out there. I was monitoring students by the guide of the teacher there. For example, I was working with low performing students to help them complete the homework, I was explaining to them some grammar lesson that was difficult to them, and I was giving them some writing activities. This experience helped me to develop my teaching skills such as monitoring and improved my teaching abilities as I was monitoring adults instead of young learners. I noticed that when I did the mentoring, it really affected on students’ performance positively. It increased their achievements because students were mentored and monitored which helped them to understand the concepts better.
